India-Mumbai: Indian man kills 14 members of his family – including seven children

India-Mumbai: Indian man killed 14 members of his family – including seven childrenHasnin Anwar Warekar, aged 35, killed his relatives by slitting their throats, including seven children and his parents, before killing himself, police say.

According to local media, Warekar laced his family’s food with sedatives and then slit their throats as they slept, but that has not been confirmed by police. Mr Kabdule said he could not confirm whether the victims had been sedated, saying investigators were awaiting medical test results. The bodies were sent to a Thane hospital for autopsies and police have sent samples of food consumed by them for tests to find out if they were sedated before being killed.

The victims’ bodies were discovered on Sunday morning in the man’s home. Thane police commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre said the accused “bolted all the doors of the house and murdered his family while they were asleep”, using a knife that was found near his body. Police say there is no clear motive for the killings.

The members of his family gathered late on Saturday at a house in Thane, a short distance from Mumbai for a family function. He has murdered 14 members of his own family after slitting their throats with a butcher’s knife while they slept before killing himself. Among those killed were his parents, wife and two daughters, his sisters and their children, aged three months to 16 years.

Warekar is believed to have worked as an accountant in Mumbai, was found hanging in his room with a knife in his hand.

The sole survivor of the attack was his sister, Subiya, aged 21, who was found by police after neighbours heard her screaming. “We still haven’t been able to speak with the attacker’s 21-year-old sister, the lone survivor of the attack, who is in deep trauma at a city hospital,” Mr Kabdule said.
